In the first BBC series of four episodes, eight amateur sewers took on increasingly more challenging sewing tasks each week before Britain's best home sewer was crowned. The final episode saw the three finalists create a made-to-measure evening gown. The series was accompanied by a book 'The Great British Sewing Bee by Tessa Eveleigh' published by Quadrille Crafts with lots of sewing tips and projects. Read our blog for projects we have done from this book. You can also find the cushion project and a review of the book from the Sewing Directory.

This was followed by a Christmas special, featuring some of the series favourite contestants.

On the 18th February at 8pm on BBC two, the second series of the Great British Sewing Bee will begin. This series will be twice as long with eight episodes. The BBC website now features a couple of clips and sewers profiles. You may have also seen the trailer, but if not take a look here.

In the first episode the contestants will be tested on how they cope with sewing three essential fabrics: cotton, wool and silk.
